On joining international real estate consultants Jones Lang Wootton/JLL in London in 1984 he specialised initially in Landlord & Tenant and various property related tax matters before transferring to the firm’s City of London offices agency team advising both landlords and tenants, becoming a Partner in 1995. After 16 years he joined GVA Grimley to help grow its London City office which he did and while at GVA he also co-founded GVA Connect, a successful data-centre advisory business. He was made Equity Partner in 2001.

He devised and completed the City of London's first ‘off-plan' or 'build to suit' office pre-letting at 20 Moorgate EC2 (155,000 sg ft) for The Queen's financial advisors Cazenove & Co and over a long career in commercial real estate he has, to date, advised on over 16 million sq ft offices. Since founding McCalmont-Woods in early 2008 he has successfully negotiated in excess of GBP £260m lease contracts while saving more than GBP £65m costs on behalf a broad mix of corporate clients.
