Jim was born and raised in New York City where he retains strong family roots and long term friendships. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1981 with a B.A. in History and began his professional career in Los Angeles working for a succession of large and small industrial real estate brokerages.
After 15 years practicing real estate, Jim opened Klein Commercial Real Estate in 1997. KCRE maintains an office in downtown Gardena and specializes in industrial property throughout the Greater Los Angeles region. Clients include developers, international corporations, and private investors, in both sale and lease transactions.
Jim also holds a New York State broker’s license enabling him to serve East Coast clients and is frequently involved in out-of-state transactions through his professional network of highly qualified real estate brokers.
Jim has held leadership roles in both civic and business organizations including BRICA (Broadway/Rosecrans Industrial Commercial Association), LASVP (Los Angeles Social Venture Partners) and SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors), for which he was recently elected to the Board of Directors. His hobbies include tennis and running, literature, travel, and tech. Jim occasionally writes about the industry. He lives in Santa Monica with his family.
Jim Klein was born in New York City and is an alumna of the Horace Mann School. He was graduated from Kenyon College in 1981 with a degree in History and later settled in Southern California. Since 1982, he has been a broker and an investor primarily with industrial real estate in the greater Los Angeles area. He also serves manufacturing and warehousing clients throughout the United States. His specialty includes larger in-fill land sites, big industrial, building tear downs, and redevelopment. Jim blogs about his views and local real estate trends.
Jim was Past President of the Broadway Rosecrans Industrial Commercial Association (BRICA), an association of property owners and tenants in a large industrial section of Los Angeles County. He served as President of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) Los Angeles Chapter and currently organizes education and keynote sessions at the Society's two national meetings. SIOR is an international organization whose members are the most elite professionals in the industry.
Jim is a former Los Angeles Social Venture Partner, an organization founded on the principle of venture philanthropy. Jim resides in Santa Monica with his wife and daughter. He is very active and enjoys tennis, swimming, or running almost daily. Other interests include reading, writing and music. Jim also enjoys foreign travel and speaks Spanish.
