How to Become an SIOR Associate Member

Organizations with a vital interest in corporate real estate services and industrial or office development comprise SIOR's Associate membership. Associate status is available as company memberships for organizations which do not engage in third-party brokerage, but are involved in industrial or office real estate in one of four categories.   • Industry Presence +/-

    Actively involved in industrial or office real estate development but does not engage in the business of third-party brokerage.

  • Development Projects +/-

    Provide descriptions of three recent development projects and include applicable marketing materials.

  • Endorsements +/-

    Provide one formal endorsement from an Active Individual Member in the applicant's Chapter and one formal endorsement from a local Chapter Officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary).

  • Industry Presence +/-

    General Associate status is open to qualified firms or agencies of specified types whose business consists in substantial part of financing, constructing, analyzing, owning or managing industrial or office real estate for occupancy by other businesses or managing networks of commercial real estate service providers. Qualified firms are those that use the services of Members of SIOR and welcome the representation of other principals by Members including accounting firms, architectural and design firms, asset management companies, banks and financial institutions, chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, engineering firms, general contractors, insurance companies with real estate portfolios, investment funds with real estate portfolios, public utilities, and title insurance companies.

    General Associates cannot engage in the business of third-party industrial or office brokerage, with the exception of auction companies.

    Provide one formal endorsement from an Active Individual Member in the applicant's Chapter and one formal endorsement from a local Chapter Officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary).

  • Industry Presence +/-

    Owns/buys/leases significant amounts of industrial and/or office real estate primarily for their own occupancy but does not engage in the business of third-party brokerage.

  • Endorsements +/-

    Provide one formal endorsement from an Active Individual Member in the applicant's Chapter and one formal endorsement from a local Chapter Officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary).

  • Industry Presence +/-

    Is an accredited educational institution offering degree programs in real estate.

  • Endorsements +/-

    Provide one formal endorsement from an Active Individual Member in the applicant's Chapter and one formal endorsement from a local Chapter Officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary).

Admission Process

Prepare an Application

  • Review and confirm eligibility of the requirements.
  • Appoint up to two delegates from the applicant's office location on the Associate Member Application.

Submit an Application

  • Apply for Membership and upload supporting documentation, if applicable. Note: incomplete applications are void after 60 days.
  • Manager of Admissions sends application to Chapter for Interview. The Chapter has 30 days to review the application and conduct an interview with the applicant.
  • Manager of Admissions will notify the Chapter members for comment.
  • Manager of Admissions provides the Qualification Report & Endorsement Form to the applicant 10 business days from the date of the Chapter Announcement.
  • Applicant obtains one formal endorsement from an Active Individual Member in the applicant's Chapter and one formal endorsement from a local Chapter officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary). The endorsing member and Chapter Officer should submit the endorsements directly to the Manager of Admissions.

Review of Application

  • The Chapter has five business days to review and sign off on the application.
  • SIOR’s Chapter Leadership Council votes monthly to approve applications.
Applicants from Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico do not fall within a Chapter’s jurisdiction. The Chapter interview will be conducted by the appropriate Regional Director and the endorsements can be from any Active SIOR Active Individual member outside of the applicant’s firm or network.

Developer Associate

  • Application Fee: $175 (non-refundable)
  • Annual Dues (first year prorated)
    • U.S. and Canada
      • First company office holding membership: $1,500
      • Other office locations from same company*: $575
      Other Countries
      • First company office holding membership: $500
      • Other office locations from same company*: $310

General Associate

  • Application Fee: $175 (non-refundable)
  • Annual Dues (first year prorated)
    • U.S. and Canada: $1,500
    • Other Countries: $500

Corporate Associate

  • Application Fee: $175 (non-refundable)
  • Annual Dues (first year prorated)
    • U.S. and Canada: $500
    • Other Countries: $250

Educator Associate

  • Application Fee: $175 (non-refundable)
  • Annual Dues (first year prorated)
    • U.S. and Canada: $300
    • Other Countries: $200

Apply for Membership

*Additional office locations must apply for membership through the standard admissions process.

Important Notes:

Associate Members can appoint up to two qualified individuals from the organization to serve as delegates and represent the organization in the affairs of SIOR. Delegates must be from the same office location where the membership is held. For an additional $275 per delegate, Associate Members may appoint up to two additional delegates at each location. The maximum number of delegates at any location is four.

SIOR Chapter Membership and Dues
Chapter Membership is required and contingent upon approval of membership in the SIOR. Active Individual, Candidate Members, and Associate Members within a Chapter's jurisdiction must fulfill applicable Chapter dues. Please contact the local Chapter for dues requirements.

SIOR’s application processing procedure, conducted pursuant to the terms of SIOR’s Bylaws, seeks to assure that applicants are fully and fairly evaluated in terms of qualification criteria as stated in the SIOR Bylaws.
