SIOR Foundation President's Letter

By: Albert McNeel, SIOR

It has been a busy couple of months for your SIOR Foundation! Our biggest fundraiser of the year—the Annual Phonathon—was, by all standards of measurement, our most successful yet, with more than $300,000 in pledges! I cannot thank our amazing and dedicated trustees enough for their hard work!

The success of the Phonathon is a good omen for the rest of the year! Our next event is the Spring Great Escape Giveaway to be held at TransACT 360 in Phoenix, April 27-30. We will be offering three $5,000 travel vouchers to help you plan the trip of a lifetime and celebrate being able to travel once again! Keep an eye on your e-mail for more information on how to get your tickets.

All the money collected from this event will go to fund our many programs and initiatives that support SIOR members and the entire commercial real estate community. This year, we have a new program that we hope will make a huge impact for years to come! The SIOR Foundation Endowment Program establishes a matching grant that—when partnered with university foundations and generous SIORs—will create sizeable scholarship endowments at some of the best real estate schools in North America. I am extremely pleased to announce our first two endowments have already been established.

The SIOR-SparrowHawk Foundation Excellence Award, established in partnership with Alfredo Gutierrez, an Affiliate member of SIOR, will provide an annual scholarship to a female student pursuing a degree in the Master of Real Estate program at the Mays Business School of Texas A&M.

The SIOR Foundation – Mildred C. Hanson Endowed Scholarship Fund, created through the partnership of Peter O. Hanson, SIOR, and the SIOR Foundation Mildred C. Hanson, SIOR, Memorial Fund, will provide an annual scholarship to underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students studying commercial real estate at Montclair State University.

Thanks to The SIOR Foundation’s collaboration with both Texas A&M and Montclair State University’s foundation programs, the endowment funds will provide scholarships over $4,000 annually in perpetuity! We cannot think of a better way to make a lasting and indelible connection with the future of commercial real estate. For more information on how you can create a living legacy at your favorite real estate school, please contact your local trustee, or Corrine Nowak, Foundation Director at cnowak@sior.com.

I want to take this time to personally thank all our supporters and donors. Without you, the SIOR Foundation would not be able to continue its mission to educate, enhance, and expand the commercial real estate industry.

Sincerely,

Albert McNeel, SIOR
