1. What’s your role at SIOR, and what does a typical day look like?
My role at SIOR is a Marketing and Communications Specialist. A typical day entails creating stylized emails and e-newsletters to keep people informed of the exciting things going on, as well as assisting with projects such as the quarterly SIOR Report magazine, new webpages, press releases, blog posts, and more!
2. What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season is Fall because I love the crisp weather, hot apple cider, sweaters, fantasy football (a new hobby), and the anticipation of many upcoming occasions to gather with loved ones and eat great food.
3. Coffee or tea, and how do you take it?
Coffee. I don’t drink it every day, but if I’m at a coffee shop, I’ll typically order an iced vanilla latte.
4. What’s your dream travel destination and why?
I love to travel, so my dream destination is always changing as I visit and learn about new places. I recently visited Machu Picchu in Peru, a long-time goal of mine, but I think the next dream destination is the Maldives.
5. Tell us a surprising or a fun fact about you.
A fun fact is that I love to bake. Growing up, I always dreamed of opening a bakery. As a teenager, I actually operated a baking business from my house, selling custom hand-decorated cookies and cakes for every occasion.
6. How would your coworkers [or friends] describe you in three words?
Optimistic, curious, and creative.
7. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My mom’s gumbo. She learned how to make it when living in New Orleans, and it is truly a labor of love — simmering all day with ingredients like a scratch-made chicken stock and a homemade spice blend. She makes it every year on my birthday, served with rice and fresh bread on the side.
8. What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy week?
I like to explore places around me, especially when the weather is nice. I could spend all day walking around new DC neighborhoods, or taking a weekend trip to a nearby area.
9. If you could swap jobs with anyone on the team for a day, who would it be?
Katie. It would be interesting to see all of the details that go into executing SIOR’s events!
10. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Always keep learning.
