Karin Fendrich, CPA, CAE, Chief Financial and Operating Officer, joined the SIOR HQ team in 2021 and brings strategic vision and an amazing ability to choose snacks to the team. From her love of poker to dream travel destination, Karin shares a little about herself in this edition of Meet the HQ Team. Read on for 10 questions with Karin.
1. How does your work contribute to SIOR’s overall mission?
My primary contribution is to make sure SIOR remains financially and operationally healthy so that all team members have the resources they need to serve our members with excellence.
2. How would your coworkers [or friends] describe you in three words?
Trustworthy, logical, a-good-listener.
3. What’s your dream travel destination and why?
I would love to do a cruise of the Greek Islands, but each year I try to check a great destination off of my list so this is more “the next” than the best.
4. Tell us a surprising or a fun fact about you.
I am an avid poker player because I love the game, not because I love the gambling. So I play everywhere from ClubWPT online, to local casinos, to the conference room with the old men in my condo building. Say ‘hi’ if you see me online—Fireball78.
5. What’s your role at SIOR, and what does a typical day look like?
I am the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, and a typical day is spent reviewing monthly activity, solving team member or member problems, keeping the goals of the organization in the forefront of everyone’s mind, and creating a better system for next year.
6. What’s something unique about the SIOR HQ team that you think people should know?
Every single day we have small and big conversations about the member experience. We all truly want our members to be happy with SIOR.
7. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
NY-style cheese pizza with a nice hard seltzer.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you watch the nickels and dimes, the dollars will take care of themselves.
9. What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy week?
Poker! Or dinner out with my husband, or happy hour with a friend, or, on a great day, all of the above!
10. If you could swap jobs with anyone on the team for a day, who would it be?
Katie, because I have worked around events for most of my career and I love the details of executing a fabulous one!
