SIOR Foundation President's Letter

By: Albert McNeel, SIOR

I hope that everyone has been having a great summer! As usual, your SIOR Foundation and its supporters have been hard at work educating, enhancing, and expanding the commercial real estate community.

I am pleased to announce that our third SIOR Foundation Endowment Program is in the books! Garry Bobke, SIOR, and the SIOR Foundation have teamed up to create a $100,000 endowment at the University of Alberta. This endowment will be used to create two awards that will provide scholarships in perpetuity to students studying Real Estate Development and Real Estate Strategies. For more information on how you can create a living legacy at your favorite real estate school, please contact your local trustee or Corrine Nowak, Foundation Director.

The SIOR Foundation also continued our support of the Real Estate Executive Council’s REEX Summer Program. We are honored to be able to help fund this program that exposes diverse high school students to top universities and career opportunities in commercial real estate. Additionally, the Foundation was proud to play a role in the Fourth Florida University Challenge. This year, students enrolled in the Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) program at the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University were challenged to develop a comprehensive analysis of a 22-acre development site. Congratulations to Angelo Cappuso, Rishi Anand, Gaby Riveros, and Leland Smith of "Team B" for coming in first place.

The Foundation was honored to be able to present the Opening General Session Speaker at the 3rd SIOR International European Conference in Dublin this past July. From all I’ve heard and seen, the conference was a huge success! The European Chapter and its members are great supporters of the SIOR Foundation, holding two fundraisers prior to the conference to benefit not only the Foundation, but to also provide funding for Ukrainian relief efforts. Over $40,000 was raised through a golf tournament and the SIORide from Dublin to Kilkenny and back! A huge thank you to the participants of the bike ride listed below. I heard it was quite the experience!

I also want to shout out their corporate sponsors, AtWater Group and Arco/Murray. Thank you all for your support of the Foundation and its initiatives!

The SIOR Foundation has some exciting plans for the CREate360 Fall Event in Dallas. This year’s “Star” Reception and Wine Tasting will be an event you do not want to miss! To celebrate in Texas style, we will be offering a sampling of top-shelf Tequilas, provided by Sperry CGA— Arriaga Group. The event will be held at Colliers—home to our very own Allen Gump, SIOR! Those who donate $1,000 or more to the Foundation this year will receive an invitation to this exclusive event, so be sure to get your donation in now! It is easy; simply go to our website and click on the "Donate" button.
