SIOR Foundation President's Letter

By: Albert McNeel, SIOR

Dear SIOR colleagues and friends,

The one constant you can count on in these times, is that tomorrow everything will be different! But one thing that never changes is the SIOR Foundation’s commitment to educate, enhance, and expand the commercial real estate industry. Every day, we strive to make a difference for students, members, and the professional community.

Over the past year and half, we have continued to provide scholarships for tomorrow’s leaders, support to SIOR chapters, and educational opportunities for all of the CRE industry by providing grants for regional and international conferences. The Foundation knows that we could not do any of these things without the support of SIOR members and partners, and for that we are truly grateful!

One of the SIOR Foundation’s initiatives that I am most excited about is the partnership with SIOR and the Real Estate Executive Council (REEC)’s summer Real Estate Exchange (REEX) Program. REEX introduces commercial real estate to students as a viable and worthwhile career option as they begin thinking about college and their futures. For the past three year, the Foundation has been honored to not only provide monetary support, but mentors and judges as well. At the end of each program, the students present capstone projects to show off what they have learned. This year, Ted Konigsberg, SIOR, and I were the lucky ones able to judge these projects.

I was blown away by the quality of the presentations by the students. It is an investment in the future of our business—one I hope we are able to continue making for years to come.

Ted echoed my thoughts:

“Participating as a judge for the REEX competition was an honor. Sponsoring this high school summer real estate program is so important to the SIOR Foundation’s core mission. The kids were very creative and presented great property development/redevelopment proposals, at a level of competence way beyond their years. I think a number of them will become SIORs in the future!”

The SIOR Foundation is committed to giving back to the organization and industry that has given so much to us. If you would like to be a part of this amazing team, please consider becoming a member of the SIOR Foundation Board of Trustees. Contact me if you are interested.

I am very excited for CREate 360 in Nashville coming up October 14-16. I am looking forward to seeing many of you in person for the first time in two years! Make sure you register for the conference and make your plans early so that you don’t miss out! To register, visit the SIOR website at www.sior.com/create360.
